Economy Hits Black Colleges Hard:Letter from Dr. Beverly Daniel Tatum, President Spelman College

Friends:

As a graduate of a Historically  Black College and University (HBCU), Howard University,  I am alarmed about the  impact the current economy is having on the future  of our most cherished institutions.  This development is addressed in the recent New York Times article,   "Economy Hits Hard On Black Campuses    and should be of great concern to our community.

 Please read the carefully written reply to the Times article by Dr. Tatum, President of Spelman College who did a great job of putting the situation and its solution into proper perspective.  After you read  both the article and letter,   pass them on and reflect deeply about what you can do to really help out.
